New AED cabinets for Stichting Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe

Hundreds of thousands of people visit Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe every year. With the safety of all those visitors in mind, all important buildings in the park are equipped with an AED from AED-Partner. All supervisors also have an AED in their car and there's a special number to mobilize them in an emergency. Stichting Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe recently expanded this AED network. Gerard van Voorst is Financial Controller and Head of Emergency Response at the park and explains:

“The safety of our visitors is very important. We'd like an AED to be available wherever the public can come. Quite a challenge for a park of 5,400 hectares. For comparison: That's the size of 11,000 soccer fields! That's why we placed 6 extra AEDs on the outdoor facilities.”

A challenge outdoors

AED-Partner advised the foundation on the most suitable AEDs. An engineering firm also joined in for the precise location of those defibrillators. After consultation, it was decided to place an AED indoors at all three entrances. The other three AEDs had to be placed outdoors on three lodges. That was a bigger challenge. Due to the crooked outer walls and the monument status of the lodges, mounting on the outside was not possible. It was also necessary to connect the AEDs to a permanent power supply (230V). After research and consultation, it was decided to mount the AEDs on a sturdy column (with a concrete base).

The foundation is happy with the expansion. Van Voorst: “The extra AEDs are all easily accessible and contribute to the safety of our visitors. Fortunately, we haven't had to use our AEDs very often in the past. Hopefully it stays that way!”
